Note – This document highlights the process for setting up a Duplicate Lead Management Rule. Once this rule is setup in the salesforce instance, Salesforce will alert/prevent the creation of multiple leads with the same matching criteria.
Step 1 - Login to Salesforce
Step 2 - After logging in, navigate to -> Setup
Once logged into Setup, navigate to “Matching Rules” as per the image below.
Note: Deactivate “Standard Lead Matching Rule” if activated.
Step 3 - Click “New Rule”, Select “Lead”, and click “Next”
On the Rule Details screen, configure as per the image below and click save.
Click Activate.
After activation, go back to “Matching Rules”, and the new rule will appear there.
Step 4 - Navigate to “Duplicate Rules”
Filter by “Lead”.
Click on “New Rule” and then save.
Click Activate
Note: When activated the “Activate” button will change to “Deactivate”.
After activation, go back to “Duplicate Rules”, and the new rule will appear there.
Reorder to have the new rule at the top if you want that rule to fire first.
Click on the “green” up and down buttons to reorder.
This completes the configuration of the duplicate rule management.
Step 5 - Verify the configuration
Two leads have been chosen from the sample
Click on the one without the phone number and put the same phone number as the other lead with the same name and save.
Note the following: -
- Same phone number
- Error in ‘red’
- Allowance to continue
- The other Lead object with same details
This indicates successful configuration of the duplicate lead management
